At least 15 people have been killed after two buses collided head-on in a Wednesday morning crash at the Kwamkikuyu area along the Malindi- Mombasa highway.

The accident occurred at around 7am on Wednesday morning, Coast Traffic police boss Peter Maina confirmed.

A bus, belonging to Muhsin Sacco, was heading to Garissa, when it collided head-on with a minibus of Sabaki Sacco, which was headed to Mombasa from Marereni, Malindi.

According to the police both drivers died on the spot while 14 persons who were injured in the accident were taken to Malindi Sub-County Hospital. An unidentified number of bodies are still trapped in the wreckages.

Reports indicate that several Kilifi County Government employees died from the crash.
