An autopsy conducted at the Jocham Hospital mortuary in Mombasa County has confirmed that Nelson Otsianda, a Buruburu Girls' school teacher, succumbed to injuries after drowning. The late Otsianda's body was found at Diani hotel's swimming pool on Sunday, November 14. Msambweni police boss Fanuel Nasio disclosed that Otsianda's body had no soft injuries and perhaps he was just drunk and fell in the water and did not know how to swim.

Otsianda's death had taken a different twist after his kin alleged to have previewed CCTV footage that showed some individuals clobbering the teacher before throwing him into the pool. The kin found blood spots  at the scene which signified that he (Otsianda) bled and that's why they became suspicious of the events, according to the deceased's father Cloud Otsianda .

The teacher, alongside four of his friends, had gone for a vacation in Coast and were staying at Gisimba Villas where they checked in on Saturday. However, Otsianda's body was found in the swimming pool area on Sunday. Some workers at the villa stated that the friends were taking alcohol and playing loud music at the swimming pool area before the unfortunate turn of events. Otsianda's colleagues allegedly tried to resuscitate him before hiring a boda boda to ferry him to the Diani Beach Hospital.
