Five family members were last night, September 2, burnt beyond recognition after a fire gutted down their house.

The incident, which happened in Mashuuru, Kajiado County, claimed the lives of a mother and her four children.

A police report indicates that the bodies retrieved showed there were four females and one male, although they could not be identified.

County emergency response team could not arrive at the scene on time owing to the distance and the condition of the road. 

Efforts by the neighbors to put out the fire and save the family were also futile.

Neighbors blamed the County Government of Kajiado for not responding to fire emergencies with the seriousness it deserves, calling on Governor Joseph ole Lenku to fund and re-organise the fire department.

Police who arrived at the scene stated that investigations into the cause of the fire had commenced.
