A senior police officer attached to Karen Directorate of Criminal Investigations collapsed and died during a party for her colleague in Upperhill area, Nairobi.
Chief Inspector Ann Wanjiru Waiganjo, the head of DCI Karen, was attending the party at a city restaurant for her retiring Makadara colleague Henry Kiambati when she collapsed.
Waiganjo was confirmed dead on arrival at the Nairobi Hospital shortly after 6pm on Saturday. She was among dozens who had attended the party.
The cause of her death was not immediately known but a postmortem on the body is planned to establish that.
Her colleagues said Waiganjo started complaining of chest pains before she collapsed.
Waiganjo is a younger sister to Joshua Waiganjo, the man accused of impersonating a police officer.
The event ended few minutes later after news of her death spread.
Colleagues described as a hard working and dedicated officer in the service.
She had served various capacities before landing the Karen post.
Waiganjo was elsewhere fundraising for her brother who was apparently battling Covid-19 complications and was in ICU.
